University To Unveil William Manchester Writings Amid Return of JFK Manuscript

If there were ever an "Assassination Document" to fall under the JFK Act, this manuscript would be it.

From the linked article: Manchester returned to Wesleyan, but his book’s profits went to the Kennedy Library, along with all his manuscripts and tedious research, where, under Jackie Kennedy’s orders, they would remain locked away until 2067. Even now, as the original manuscript returns to the University, it remains shrouded in secrecy, heavily censored and sealed away. It remains under the control of the Kennedy family.

“Even in the archiving process we can’t read it legally,” said Assistant University Archivist Valerie Gillispie, “Many of us haven’t even seen it!”

As the exhibition celebrating Manchester’s illustrious career commences, the piece of U.S.history that is “The Death of a President” remains locked away in the historian’s former office on the second floor of the Olin Library, a fascinating part of school history, Kennedy mystique, and the American literary legacy. His mahogany desk on the Senate floor will remain there, his name inscribed in a drawer below his brother’s. His papers, spanning almost five decades of lawmaking, will go to the John F. Kennedy Library. And the treasured mementos from his office walls - family letters; his brother’s dog tags; Cape Cod seascapes he painted - will hang again, in a replica of the office on Boston’s Columbia Point, at the heart of the new Edward M. Kennedy Institute.

Howard Zinn, 1922-2010

This is a sad day for those devoted to the truth regarding the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. A great American and noted historian, Howard Zinn has passed on at the age of 87. Zinn, a popular lecturer and socio-political activist, renowned for his remarkable "A People's History of the United States," was one of the very few noted American historians to publicly declare in both his writings and lectures that a conspiracy, in fact, existed in the public execution of America's 35th president. In 2004 he penned his memoir, You Can't Be Neutral on a Moving Train, subequently produced as a filmed documentary narrated by actor Matt Damon, a devoted fan. A man of courage and compassion, Howard Zinn will be greatly missed.

Please let all members of JFK Lancer know, ask them to offer prayers for Howard and his family, and to ask other historians to step forward in Zinn's absence to declare for truth and justice in the murder of our nation's 35th president, John F. Kennedy.

Aubrey Rike Health Update

Parkland Hospital witness Aubrey Rike has been hospitalized with serious health issues but is now on the way to recovery. Sadly, Aubrey has had one of his legs removed due to infection but the doctors are very positive at this time. Aubrey is one of the most generous of the assassination witnesses, never failing to give his time at conferences and student functions throughout the year. We at JFK Lancer are forever proud to be the publishers of his autobiography, allowing him to share his poignant experiences with people of all ages. Aubrey and his wife Glenda would like the research community to know how much they appreciate your thoughts and prayers. As President Obama prepares to deliver his first State of the Union address, Sorensen wonders whether the president has not become more like the politicians he supposedly displaced.

"He is still a very eloquent, articulate speaker," Sorensen says. "He is clearly well-informed on all matters of public policy, sometimes, a little too well-informed. Ever since Watergate increased the paranoia level in American politics, just about everyone who has run for president has at some point been called a "Manchurian candidate." It is not a compliment. It means the speaker believes that this person has been programmed by evildoers -- communists, terrorists, whoever -- to seek public office, gain power, and then unleash the enemy's nefarious plans from within. What it really means, of course, is that the speaker doesn't like or trust the candidate. Hard evidence that Obama or Bush or McCain or Clinton or anyone else was actually brainwashed is difficult to come by. Brainwashers are stealthy that way.

After seven years on the market, Hickory Hill, the McLean home of Robert Kennedy, has finally found a buyer. Originally listed for $25 million, the 5.6-acre property -- a 7,332-square-foot Georgian manor built in 1869, with 13 bedrooms and 11 baths, tennis court and pool -- proved a tough sell, especially given its designation as a National Historic Landmark (developers couldn't subdivide the land and throw up McMansions). The price was dropped to $20 million, then $16.5 and finally to $12.5 two years ago. The buyer, who was not disclosed, now joins the list of distinguished owners including Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson, John F. Kennedy and RFK, who bought it from his brother for $125,000 in 1957.
